An exhibition of the works of County Down artists.

This exciting new exhibition is a celebration of the works of some of the greatest artists who have worked in the Borough. We have a long history of artistic expression and have been home to many working artists over the years. Today, the creative industries are still flourishing, and our Borough has a culture of supporting artists and nurturing new talent.

This exhibition will focus on celebrating the work of some of the most significant and prestigious artists of the twentieth century who have lived and worked in the Borough. It draws together artworks from North Down Museum’s collection and private lenders to highlight how our people, towns and landscape have been transformed into some of the finest examples of Irish modern art.

Recording and Transforming: A talk by Dr Dickon Hall

Join us for a fascinating evening as acclaimed art historian Dr Dickon Hall explores  the incredible artists that have been inspired by the people and landscape of our Borough.

Throughout the twentieth century, significant artists, including Colin Middleton and Daniel O’Neill, came to work and live in Ards and North Down. This talk will look at ways in which they created an important visual record of the area and also brought a transformative modernist vision to familiar towns and landscapes.

The talk is part of our Inspiration and Transformation exhibition.
