Museums Tell Stories Project
North Down Museum recently took part in the Museums Tell Stories project in conjunction with Northern Ireland Museums Council, Armstrong Storytelling Trust and four other local museums - Fermanagh County Museum, Newry and Mourne Museum, Tower Museum and Ballycastle Museum.
The project aimed to build connections to those within local communities who had experienced social isolation throughout the pandemic.
The stories were delivered through a blend of in-person and virtual sessions to identified groups on a weekly basis and involved engaging communities with collections-inspired reminiscence and storytelling. The sessions were cofacilitated by local museum staff and storytellers from AST.
Storyteller John Savage, worked with North Down Museum to tell stories to groups in The Savoy, Independent Living Scheme, Bangor. using objects from the museum’s collection for inspiration.
You can listen to John tell a wonderful story about his childhood trips to Bangor in the above video.
