Join former Curator of North Down Museum Ian Wilson who will talk about the journey of Barry Bingham’s Victoria Cross to the museum.
Bingham was born in 1881 in Bangor Castle and at the age of 16 joined the navy. The Victoria Cross was awarded to him for the valour he displayed in the Battle of Jutland, a pivotal naval battle fought in May 1916.
This talk discusses the Victoria Cross and its journey back to Barry’s home where it remains to this day on display in the museum’s Jutland gallery.
