Join Medieval historian Dr Cormac Burke to discuss the fascinating history of the Bangor Bell.
This decorative 9th century Bronze Bell was found in 1780 by workmen digging in Bangor Abbey. It is a very rare castbronze Irish Hand Bell, one of only three existing handbells and is the only surviving relic of the great days of the monastery.
The Bell was purchased by Bangor Borough Council in 1956 and became one of the most iconic objects in the museum’s collection, currently on public display in the Early Christian Gallery.
