This exhibition explores the wonderful history of the Old Mill House and Walled Garden, Helen’s Bay from its earliest days to the present.

Originally part of the demesne of Craigdarragh House, the site was originally part of a flax mill that burned down in 1863.  It was Thomas Workman who went on to purchase Craigdarragh and it was his daughter Jane and her husband Jimmy Yeames who went on to live in Old Mill House and develop the gardens in 1901.

Over two world wars the family lived in Old Mill House and lovingly tended the gardens.  In 1949, Margaret Garner, daughter of Jane and Jimmy moved into the house with her husband Harry.  This dynamic pair transformed the garden and lived there until 2006.

At this time, James and Lorraine Small purchased the house and garden and have set about restoring the site to its former glory.

This exhibition charts the history of the Old Mill House and Walled Garden and gives you a chance to glimpse into its exciting future.
