To mark the 100th anniversary of the establishment of Northern Ireland, North Down Museum has put together a special exhibition 'NI100: Our Borough, Our People' which explores local people who have made a national or international impact in their field over the past 100 years.

Ards and North Down is home to a wealth of talent and this exhibition celebrates the achievements of individuals across eight different categories: - Arts, Entertainment, Leaders, Literature, Music, Science & Industry, Sports and Wartime.

We hope you enjoy browsing the exhibition and learning about our local achievers. The list is by no means definitive, so if you would like to see someone highlighted, please let us know!

NI100: Our Borough, Our People Videos

We have invited some local people to talk about each of the categories in the exhibition. We will be adding these videos to this page over the coming weeks.

In this short video, The Mayor, Councillor Trevor Cummings, tells us about The Andrews family from Comber who played a pivotal role in Northern Ireland politics during the last century.

In this video, Claire Ablett, Curator of Transport and Industry at the Ulster Transport Museum explores local people who have made an impact in the field of Science and Industry.

Verity Peet, Manager of The Portico of Ards, discusses Joseph Tomelty, the famous actor from Portaferry.
