This exhibition has been created by the artists Julie Wilson and Susan Moody and is inspired by the dramatic landscape and wildlife of Svalbard in the High Arctic.

These works highlight the fragile beauty of the Arctic, an area under threat due to the negative environmental impact of climate change. Both artists travelled to the Arctic and were impacted by the extreme nature of the environment and inspired by the spirit of the individuals who took part in early polar exploration.

Using different media and with individual styles and focus, each artist has drawn on their own extensive collection of photographs and experiences they have gathered from their polar adventure.

Artist Talk: Fragile Beauty, the art of exploration

Join Julie Wilson and Susan Moody at North Down Museum on Thursday 20 February for an artist talk.

They will speak about their travels to the Svalbard region of the Arctic, its wild and unique landscape and wildlife and how it  inspired the High Latitudes exhibition. This talk will discuss the impact of climate change on the region and the impacts of environmental change closer to home.

They will chat also about how they have used art and their shared passion for the region to highlight the wild unexplored beauty of this fragile landscape. A must for all art enthusiasts.
