An exhibition of artworks by Leslie Nicholl, supported by the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust.

Speaking of the concept behind the work, Nicholl says;

“This exhibition is dedicated to the memory of the German Jewish lawyer Hans Litten, who brought Hitler to court and cross examined him in the dock to highlight to the German public, and the world, the corruption of power being advocated by Hitler and his acolytes.

Sadly, when Hitler came to power in 1933, Hans Litten was arrested and eventually forced to take his own life after being brutally treated in various concentration camps.

After German reunification the Berlin Lawyer's Association renamed itself the Hans Litten Bar Association.

In the Europe of 2022 the world needs the courage of people, women and men, of the calibre of Hans Litten.”

Leslie Nicholl studied Fine Art Printmaking and Fine Art Painting at Belfast College of Art, leaving with an Honours Degree.

He has a collection of 60 faces painted on handkerchiefs based on the autobiography of Helen Lewis, A Time to Speak, in the Northern Ireland War Museum and represented the Province for Holocaust Memorial Day 2022 in the Northern Ireland Parliament.

The exhibition explored the kindness of strangers towards strangers during the Kindertransports to Northern Ireland prior to and during World War Two.

That kindness is still being shown by the people of Northern Ireland during 2022.

NVTV interview where Leslie Nicholl and Kate O'Neill discuss the inspirations behind their work. With contributions from Shirely Lennon of the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust speaking about Nicholl's work, and Lauren Dawson discussing the varied exhibitions programme at Ards Arts Centre.
