An exhibition exploring Ulster-Scots pioneers in the Pacific Northwest.

In February 1862, twelve young men from North Down set off for the Cariboo Mountains of British Columbia, drawn by reports of gold. Battling hunger and hardship, some returned to California to farm, while others remained to help build the young colony.

This exhibition, written by the great-grandson of pioneer Alexander Robb, brings their journey to life through Robb’s letters home - revealing personal stories of adventure, resilience, and the enduring Ulster spirit in the face of a rapidly changing world.

Ulster-Scots Pioneers in the Pacific Northwest

A captivating talk by author Brian White, tracing the journey of twelve North Down men to the goldfields of British Columbia through the original letters of his pioneer great-grandfather.
