Born in Bangor in 1930, Blakely began his love of performing with Bangor Amateur Operatic Society and joined Bangor Drama Club in the 1950s.

He went on to win acclaim in the English Theatre and his work in film and television is also fondly remembered. Sadly, he died at the age of 56 at the peak of his career but he will always be thought of locally as a warm and friendly man who never forgot his hometown.

During the month of September, the honour of a Blue Plaque will be bestowed upon Colin Blakely at Bangor Drama Club’s Studio 1A site.  Special thanks go to Bangor Drama Club, Clare Greer and Kenneth Irvine and Colin Maltman who loaned many of the items on display.

This exhibition is part of Aspects Festival.
