North Down Museum’s artist showcases will feature a series of artists, makers and crafts people who contribute to keeping our traditional heritage skills alive.

Our current showcase features Alison Hanvey, one of the most talented and successful ceramicists currently living within the Ards and North Down borough. The showcase explores Alison’s work, offering a glimpse into the creative process, and includes a display of beautiful ceramic pieces.

Alison Hanvey is a potter with over 20 years experience, living and working in Newtownards. A graduate of Sunderland University, and fully trained production thrower, her designs are inspired by the beautiful coastal scenery and by her love of gardening.

Using stoneware clay, Alison produces a range of functional ware and decorative pieces for outdoors and indoors.

Alison Hanvey Pottery Demonstration

Join Alison in Coffee Cure, North Down Museum on Thursday 2 May at 7pm for a live pottery demonstration.

Having trained for many years as a production potter, Alison loves to make functional pots for people to use and enjoy every day, using quality stoneware clays and glazes. This wheel-based ceramic making demonstration will show Alison’s process in the production of pottery throwing.
